Need For Speed Undercover is in my opinion probably one of the most underrated Nfs game out there, and this is why I'm doing a review of it, enjoy.
About Need For Speed Undercover
So in this game, the player is going undercover as an officer in Tri-City Bay Police Department (TCBPD), and that is probably one of the reasons that this game is not as popular and as loved as most wanted and carbon. Most wanted is definitely one of the best nfs game story and gameplay-wise, but I'm not you are not the real illegal street racer here and instead play as an undercover.
Gameplay
Let's talk about the gameplay. So in this game physics are a lot different than in previous games, but that doesn't make it bad. My opinion on the physics is that it was a step in the right direction, but it was just not as fun as in MW (Most Wanted). Today's need for speed games have really good car physics, however, they are missing a lot more stuff. When undercover was made they were rushing about making games at the time and that is the reason why undercover feels unfinished.
Leveling And Events
The leveling system in the game is great you have a wheelman level, which increases when you collect enough xp playing all kinds of events. Now let's talk about the events a little. There is a lot of variety of races from circuit races to outruns which I miss a lot. Outrun races were races where you have to outrun your opponent for a certain amount of time to win, they were crazy fun. Now the cons. I feel like drift events would have fit in perfectly but we didn't get those. They were not in most wanted but were introduced back in the underground days.
Story Progression And Thoughts
Now let's talk about progressing through the story. This is what people think is pretty repetitive and I kinda do agree. So to progress through missions you would have to complete races and grind xp to unlock special missions called jobs. Jobs are really fun to do since you make progress through the whole story while doing different missions like stealing cars, taking down the smugglers, and a lot more. However, sometimes you just have to play too many races that are basically the same to unlock jobs and when a new job pops up trust me you feel like the happiest person in the world. Now, why is this not a problem to me? It is not a problem for me and other hardcore nfs fans because we go for 100% completion of the game and we are going to do those events no matter what.I will talk a little bit about the story here, but not try to spoil it for you that never played this gorgeous game. The story itself was interesting enough to keep me grinding races while thinking what will happen next however it is pretty short and is not something that you will remember at all after a couple of months but that gives it replay value I guess. Graphically the game looked kind of outdated but that is because as I said the game was rushed to be released as soon as possible.
Cars And Customization
Car roster is perfect for 2008 where you have those loved everyday cars to some hypercar beasts like Bugatti Veyron and Pagani Zonda. Customization is probably the most controversial thing in the franchise. Back when undercover was the latest nfs the customization we had was pretty much enough, the problem started when the only thing that we could customize was the color of the car and nothing else, luckily that wasn't the case in this game. What I liked about the customization in this game is the aftermarket parts, I absolutely loved them. The variety of bumpers, hoods, rims, and everything was really good. Aftermarket parts are the only thing I personally care about but the vinyls were great too.
Opinions And Rating
Now let's answer the question. Should you play Need For Speed Undercover? Yes, you should, you totally should, it is a great need for speed that you will especially enjoy if you are a long time nfs fan that never played it. So please play it!
