Se ti piacciono le avventure di animali magici o mitici, guarda altrove: "Ori and the Blind Forest", "Seasons of the Fall" o "Spirit of the North" sapranno soddisfarti. Se ti piacciono i le atmosfere mistiche quasi e surreali, in cui il gameplay rispecchia solo eventi reali o più, ti consiglio i ben noti: "Vanishing of Ethan Carter" o "Dreaming Sarah".
"The First Tree" è un titolo indie di genere avventura incentrato più sulla bellezza e esplorazione che la vera e propria avvincente storia.
Il gioco ideato dalla David Wehle nel 2017 è una vera esplorazione in terza persona incentrato su due storie parallele: quella di una volpe in cerca dei suoi cuccioli perduti e quella di un figlio che recupera un legame con il proprio padre in Alaska.
Sei una volpe che cerca i suoi cuccioli ma come allegoria degli eventi della vita al personaggio del narratore, progredendo nel gioco il personaggio del narratore parlerà più della sua vita e delle sue relazioni con suo padre, elaborando tutto man mano che il gioco procede.

Storia
Dal mio punto di vista, la storia si riduce a un ragazzo e del suo pentito rapporto sprezzante nei confronti del padre ormai morto, e una tonnellata di domande e incertezze che si pone sul tipo di padre che sarebbe diventato lui stesso. Tutto all'interno del gioco ha qualcosa a che fare con l'uno o l'altro, tranne quando sua moglie condivide la sua prospettiva. La volpe (che interpreti nella maggior parte del gioco) sembra essere la sua guida spirituale il quale cammina nel bosco alla ricerca dei suoi cuccili mentre il narratore parla di tutte le possibili allegorie e accettazioni che ormai deve affrontare nel corso della sua vita.
Non so che mi sia piaciuta molto la storia in generale, che dovrebbe essere il suo centrale punto di forza, ma è stata interessante comunque.

Gameplay
Questo è un simulatore di "camminata", una vera e propria passeggiata nei panni di una volpe, con alcune attività quali raccogliere stelle, scavare scavare segreti e artefatti del passato e risolvere piccoli enigmi per far avanzare la storia. Principalmente giochi come una volpe, anche se hai un cameo del narratore che ci accompagnerà nella maggior parte della storia. Le attività collaterali come il collezionismo di stelle interrompono un po il ritmo, il che è positivo, ma oltre a ciò, sono davvero lì solo per darti qualcos'altro da fare oltre ad ascoltare i commenti e correre attraverso il gioco.
Grafica
La grafica è bella ed entra abbastanza spesso in un territorio meraviglioso. Sicuramente si gioca anche attraverso le quattro stagioni, e queste sono ben rappresentate graficamente secondo me.
